One of my favorite scriptures is Romans 8:28 –
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Oprah Winfrey expressed it this way to India Arie,
be clear about your intention, and the universe will rise up to meet you wherever you are.”
Whether you call the higher power “God” or “the universe” is irrelevant. What is important to know is that you and I have an important role to play in the grand eternal scheme of things. We all have a purpose, and when we are on task, that higher power is constantly opening doors for us to achieve our purpose because as it helps us, it also helps others. There’s a saying that “life supports that which supports life,” or in other words, we will be supported as we support and nurture others by giving freely of our gifts and talents. That doesn’t mean that if we are on task, we won’t encounter challenges because we need to have those in order to grow and become. It does mean that we will feel our purpose as we see door after door being opened where there appeared to only be walls. There will be times when you don’t know how you will accomplish something, and out of the blue, an idea or an opportunity will present itself. That’s how you will know you are on the right track. When this happens, don’t hesitate. Act upon it immediately, and give gratitude for the wisdom beyond your own. Don’t worry that you don’t know all the steps you need to take in order to accomplish something you’ve been inspired to do. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said,
Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
Trust that as you take each step, the next one will be revealed.
How do we know if we are on task and achieving our purpose? Your purpose will bring you joy and a reason to get out of bed every morning. Instead of making you tired, it will invigorate your body, mind, and spirit. It comes naturally, and you never get bored of it. In fact, you’ll always be finding new ways that it excites you. I can attest to this as it relates to me and my purpose. Other than being a wife and mother, I know my calling is to help people get excited about exercise and nutrition and help them to honor their bodies, so they can better achieve whatever it is they were sent here to do. One day during a particularly hard workout, a woman in my class shouted, “Do you sit around at the breakfast table thinking of things to do to us?” As a matter of fact, I do, lol! Your purpose will fulfill you and ignite a passion within you. Not feeling any passion? Then it’s time to start praying or meditating or whatever it is that you do to find answers in your life. We are never really fulfilled unless we are living a life of purpose and growth. Begin today to pray/meditate to find your true purpose. As you do, you will find, as I have, all things truly do work together for your good, and you do have a purpose. You are an integral part of the universe. YOU MATTER! If you have a story of discovering your purpose, please share it with us!
